Highway 417 Accident Today – Pedestrian Seriously Injured After Being Struck Near Vanier Parkway

A pedestrian was taken to hospital Thursday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 417 near Vanier Parkway in Ottawa, prompting major traffic disruptions and the temporary closure of all eastbound lanes.

According to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the collision occurred at approximately 2:48 p.m. on Thursday. Emergency crews responded quickly to the scene, where the pedestrian was found injured and transported to hospital for treatment.

Police said the individual was in serious but stable condition.

Shortly after the initial incident, a second collision occurred in the same area, further complicating the emergency response and worsening traffic conditions. As a result, all eastbound lanes of Highway 417 were closed for more than an hour while first responders assisted the injured and investigators examined the scene.

The closures left traffic at a standstill, with motorists advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes until the highway was reopened.

Authorities have not released the identity of the injured pedestrian, nor have they disclosed the circumstances that led to either collision. The incidents remain under investigation, and police are expected to provide additional information as it becomes available.

Drivers are reminded to exercise caution when approaching emergency scenes and to remain alert for pedestrians and changing traffic conditions, particularly on busy roadways.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or has information that may assist investigators is encouraged to contact the Ontario Provincial Police.
